UPDATED with photo: Dallas restaurant mogul Norman Brinker died in Colorado Springs on Tuesday morning

3

— Norman Brinker, 78, responsible among other things for making Chili's what it is today, died on Tuesday morning while on vacation in Colorado Springs.

Cheryl Hall at the DMN sums it up thusly:

He is best known for his transformation of Chili’s Inc. from a handful of hamburger joints into the publicly traded restaurant behemoth Brinker International, which owns three casual dining chains: Chili’s Grill & Bar; Maggiano's Little Italy, and On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina.

Norman Brinker, center, is said to have introduced the sport of polo to the North Texas area. He's pictured here with two board members from the Las Colinas Polo Club, on his left and right.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Brinker. You created a heck of a brand, and ran your business well.
