Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, June 10-16

Now that school is out for all but those summer schoolers, it's time to get crackin' and do stuff outside of the house. In addition the plethora of camps available for seemingly every hobby/sport out there, there's plenty to do in North Texas. There's dragon taming (of a sort) in Dallas, a kid-friendly rapper in Arlington, a play about a duck (not named Donald or Howard) in Hurst, an arts festival in Dallas, and super awesome lasers (and music) in Fort Worth.

In an apparent attempt to make yoga more manly than it sounds, Park Cities Yoga in Dallas will be holding Taming the Dragon: Coordination and Agility for Boys ages 8-12 on Wednesday, June 10. The class, which will also be presented three times in July and three times in August, is designed for the boys to learn to use breath as a powerful tool to harness strength and develop coordination in their rapidly changing bodies.

Also on Wednesday is a performance by Big Don at the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Arlington. The award-winning Austin rapper brings kids positive and inspiring lessons through his music.

On Thursday, June 11, Artisan Center Theater in Hurst will continue its production of Wimberly the Duck. The story about a duck who thinks it's human will have repeat performances on June 13 and 16, and will continue every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday until June 25.

Friday, June 12 is the start of the three-day Dallas CityArts 2009 in the Dallas Arts District. The free festival offers a ton of music and food for every taste. Friday's will be a night celebration, while Saturday and Sunday will start at 11:00 a.m. and last all day.

Finally, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will try to draw in the families by presenting its Super Awesome Laser Adventure on both Friday and Saturday night at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The orchestra will play selections from films like Harry Potter and Star Wars, all accompanied by, apparently, super awesome lasers.
