Oliver!, the famous British musical with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart, will be opening June 19th-July 12th at Richardson Theatre Centre’s new location at 2701 II Creeks Plaza, directly across the parking lot from the former location. Oliver! will be Richardson Theatre Centre’s first production in its new home featuring two beautifully appointed performance spaces as well as many other amenities. “Oliver! will inaugurate the Grand opening of our new theatre home. We have a large and talented cast of 32 local actors ranging in ages from 6 to 60. I am so excited to be able to direct the classic Dickens tale of Oliver Twist in musical form,” said Rachael Lindley, the director of Oliver! and Artistic Director of the repertory productions of Richardson Theatre Centre.
Oliver! the musical is the first one of Charles Dickens' work to become a stage hit. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1964 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968. A new London production opened in January 2009.
Opening night will feature a Grand opening Dessert and Champagne reception following the production sponsored by Wildflour a Texas Café. Wildfour a Texas Café also partners with Richardson Theatre Centre’s on Thursday night Supper Club evenings featuring dinner and a show for $30.00.
