Beginning Friday, June 19, 2009, the popular story of four children’s adventure in Narnia comes to Weatherford as Theatre Off the Square presents The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, written by C.S. Lewis and presented with special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company. Candace Brooks is the director for this production with assistant director Jamie Forman. Fight scene choreographer is Kwin Smith.
When Lucy, the youngest of the four children, decides to explore a wardrobe in the country house where they are staying, another world opens up for her as she is magically transported into a snow covered forest in the land of Narnia. When she returns through the wardrobe back to the house, her siblings don’t believe her adventure. Several days later, as the children are playing hide and seek, Lucy and her brother, Edmund, make their way to Narnia where Edmund is introduced to a lady calling herself the Queen of Narnia, who is actually a witch. After some time passes, all four children end up in the wardrobe trying to hide from the housekeeper, Mrs. Macready. Once all of them arrive in Narnia, the adventure begins in earnest as they begin to hear of a great lion called Aslan who comes to their rescue and offers his life in exchange for the children’s freedom from the White Witch. Narnia is inhabited by talking beavers, a faun, a dwarf and other creatures and critters, all on-hand for the battle between good and evil when Aslan meets the White Witch. Just when it seems all is lost, a powerful force of good prevails and the children learn valuable lessons of hope and faith.
The cast for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe includes Ian Barnett, Robert De la Garza, Nikki Acosta, Morgan Richards and Jake Shanahan. Others are Alex Gardner, Box Lawson, Michael Rudd, Joshua Sherman and Kristen Walker.
