DALLAS Two Dallas ISD librarians have been named by the Dallas Association of School Librarians as the top librarians in their field.
Nan Dosker, librarian at Highland Meadows Elementary School, was named the 2008-2009 Elementary Librarian of the Year, and Karen Harris, librarian at Moises E. Molina High School, was named the 2008-2009 Secondary Librarian of the Year.
The two were recognized recently by the organization at their annual awards program.
Dosker, a 15-year Dallas ISD veteran, was a teacher at George Peabody Elementary School who became a librarian so that she could still teach and get a chance to work with all the students in the school. Dosker has been at Highland Meadows since it opened in the fall of 2004 and is the winner of the PTA Lifetime Achievement Award for 2008. Dosker works with the school’s Parent and Tot Reading Program and believes she has the best job in the school.
Harris has been with the district for 21 years and was a librarian at Lenore K. Hall Elementary School before coming to Moises E. Molina High School in 2000. Harris says she feels honored to be recognized for doing the job she loves in the best school in Dallas.
The Dallas Association of School Librarians also recognized Connie Wallace, principal at Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School as the 2008-2009 Administrator of the Year. She has been with the district for seven years, three of those years have been as principal at Lowe.
