EP description from the band's site
Hoping to bridge the gap between full length recordings, not to mention, scratch their own relentless creative itch, Cadillac Sky decided the time was now to go into the recording studio. Literally. So at about 10:30pm on a rainy night in May, attempting to avoid "paralysis by analysis", they called up their vaunted engineer, Daniel "DJ Dirty" Rice and told him to fire up the equpiment; "we're coming over".
So one midnight recording session later, the "Weary Angel EP", as it has been unofficially dubbed, was born. With no label restraints to confine them, the guys set out to capture the energy and spontaneity of their ever-evolving live show.
Almost every note on the record was recorded live with only a handful of overdubs for effect. The title track, written by C-Sky's Simpson, pays homage to those "Weary Angel"s in each of our lives that keep an almost nightly vigile for us in our darkest hours. The song features an emotionally-charged debut vocal from David and an enchanting Indian instrument called the "chaturangui" played by Billy Cardine of The Biscuit Burners.
Following the epic title track is a cover of the Death Cab for Cutie song,"I Will Follow You Into The Dark". David's sister and indie-rock songstress, Jessica Lea Mayfield, adds her mesmorizing vocal to Bryan's and proves to be the perfect compliment to the intimacy this song requires.
And to round things out they recorded none other than a live show favorite, "Video Killed the Radio Star"- complete with rain sticks and air pumps, and the debut vocal performance of their otherwise silent bass player, Andy "Panda" Moritz.
Weary Angel (Reprise) which closes out the set of material gives us a peek into the far corners of C-Sky's musical hearts and minds. Allowing for an opportunity to witness the diversity of their musical prowess and interests, and forces the listener to continue to give Cadillac Sky the creative levity they so earnestly desire.
