Six Flags files Chapter 11
Despite a decent year in 2008, Six Flags is seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company, which overseas 20 parks in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, says that proceedings will not affect its operation. Six Flag reports a $2.4 billion debt load, but will bring a Dr. Pepper can to court in hopes of lowering that figure.

Six Flags initiated some truly stupid new rules that are going to bite them this summer big time. We took 6 of us to the park as a graduation present for a nephew on May 31.
Now I got a decent (Gulp) discount on tickets through AAA ($30 ouch), then there's the cheap parking - $15. This park has been established for well over 35 years, and the cheap parking is $15! Food of course is sky-high, so we all packed lunch (and shared a meal later in the park itself).
But what really had us furious is that there use to be bins and areas next to the popular rides to put your backpack or water bottle or big water/soda bottle while you rode and then you grabbed them when you got off. Not any more. You have to PAY $1 for a locker FIRST to store everything. Oh that only lasts 2-hours, then the locker automatically pops open.
If you want to put stuff in a locker for all day, that's $12.
If you want water, $3.50. That's MORE then what a gallon of gas costs. And again, you have to lock the water - everything away before you can get on any ride.
This. Is. Texas. It gets very very hot in the Summer. Can you imagine the potential lawsuits? Dehydration? What about the families? This is not only a really dumb practice, but who could afford it?
A few years ago we had season passes and purchased a big souvenir cup (with lid, straw etc) for $7.99. We got free ice water (With ice) refills all day that day; soda cost, but we drink water. That was great! We stayed hydrated, healthy and longer in the park.
All the adults from this outing are sending letters. The only reason we stayed the 12 hours there (did I mention tired), was because the park was so empty. If it had been packed with these new 'rules' clogging things up and making it - well, dangerous, we'd never have lasted even half that time.
Greed = Stupidity.

You know what I hate about six flags? The long lines. I don't understnd the logic of waiting an hour for a one minute ride. Don't feed me that BS line skipper whatever pass.

Wow, our souvenir cups were like $13 last summer... whatta rip. As far as rides, the best thing to do is go late - we used to ride the Cliffhanger (RIP) 6 and 7 times back to back in the last 30 minutes of park-time.

But didn't serving beer solve almost as much as naming the place after a labor organizer would?
It flows nicely: "Cesar Chavez Over Texas"
uh-huh? huhhh??

I'd love to see them dump the lame Loony Toons theme and return to a Texas history theme. It would no doubt save them millions of dollars in licensing fees.
Until the past few years, we always had a family season pass. It was great when the kids were younger because we could make more frequent and shorter trips to the park. Then when they got older and disinclined to be seen in public with us, my husband and I used to enjoy going over to walk around the park and perhaps watch a couple of shows in the evening. But seems as though now it's not as pleasant just to walk around. The entire park is just a big commercial.

Wow, well I guess if they are going to file they are doing it in the right time, that filing will just "blend-in" with all the others being filed these days. I loved the LOG-RIDE, The Flume back in the day, classic old ride with many memories!

My favorite attraction as a child was Skull Island and second would probably be the riverboat ride in the French section. The rides used to be more part of an imaginary adventure.

Well played...
Don't remember the last time I went, and that will hold true for quite some time methinks.

Chris Kidd, says:
Six Flags posted record-topping revenue last year, the reason for the ch 11 is due to the fact they took a huge charge off for selling off some of their lesser properties over the past couple of years, purchased under the previous group time of ownership. The good news, the company is solid. The only change you'll be seeing is more rides/attractions at the park.

Not even good import beer, domestic swill like bud and bud light. They also dont serve it on Jesus Weekend, which is a buzzkill, as I was looking forward to going and kicking back a few before going to a christan rock concert LOL

We bought family passes for previous years, but this year no thanks. Overcrowded, overpriced overall lame experience has gone downhill over the last few years. A royal beating going to Six Flags in general......
