Fort Worth and Arlington ISDs get fed funds for food equipment

The bad news: deep fryers are OUTTA HERE!

Soon, there'll be no more crispy, deep-fried tater tots in public schools in Texas. (DAMMIT!)
Soon, there'll be no more crispy, deep-fried tater tots in public schools in Texas. (DAMMIT!)

School campuses of both the Fort Worth and Arlington Independent School Districts will soon be getting new food processors, freezers, ovens and steamers thanks to the federally-funded American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Something over $11 million in nutrition equipment grant money will be split between schools in the two districts. Over 3,000 Texas schools applied for the funding, but only 381 of them got money.

On a sad note for those who appreciate greasy french fries, there's a Dept. of Agriculture requirement that school cafeterias phase out all their deep fat fryers by the Fall of 2009.

Alas, poor tater tot -- I knew him, Julienne.
