NTTA likely to raise tolls by September 2009
Due to decreased traffic and the need to pay off bondholders, the NTTA will more than likely raise tolls by 32 percent by September 2009. The NTTA confusingly describes the increase as going from 11 cents a mile to 14.5 cents a mile. Okayyyy... so does that mean my $1 toll goes up to $1.30 or what?

Genius.
And this is because the cost of an existing road suddenly skyrocketed?
Or is this how those monopolies always work? I'm thinking... yes.

Whew -- I was gonna use the word blackmail, but greed is easier to fit on a brick.

I wonder if the decrease in use will be made up for in the higher fees.

Wished there was a way for everyone to just stop using the toll roads and let them go to hell in a handbasket..

brilliant. Then they can raise the rates again when even less people use the toll roads.

That's what happens with a monopoly. Supply/Demand are crippled.

Travis, visit Austin - most people completely ignore their toll roads.

I can't(well I really can) the tollroad here in Dallas. Not so many crazy drivers and I can get to places quicker. :(

To be fair, the toll roads in Austin are largely useless and don't go anywhere. The only time I consider using them is if southbound traffic on 35 is heavy and I need to get to Mopac in a hurry.

Maybe this is why there is an increase in wrong way drivers down the toll road; to beat the toll sensors. No?
