Pudge Rodriguez comes ‘home’ to set catching record Wednesday night
It's only fitting he returns to his "home ballpark" to catch his record 2,227th game.
ARLINGTON Our very own Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez -- or, at least, some still consider him to be ours -- will serve as catcher to his 2,227th game Wednesday night, exceeding a record for most games caught in Major League history. Rodriguez played catcher for the Texas Rangers from 1991 through 2002. And here's a fun fact: Rodriguez surpasses current record-holder Carlton Fisk, whose nickname was also "Pudge."
Rodriguez currently catches for the Houston Astros, but the team will travel to the Ballpark in Arlington -- which the Bleacher Report calls Rodriguez's "home ballpark" -- to play the Rangers and take the title.
See this story for a cool chart of Rodriguez's stats versus other Hall of Fame catchers.
