UNT to present 3rd Annual Summer Arts Festival

Three chimpanzees attempt to write William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the blinding ability of despair and the struggle between good and evil –- these are some of the highlights of the University of North Texas 3rd Annual Summer Arts Festival: Student Works at 8 p.m. July 1 to 3 (Wednesday to Friday).

The productions will take place in the Studio Theatre in UNT’s Radio, Television, Film and Performing Arts Building, located at the corner of Welch and Chestnut streets. The night of dance and theatre student works will feature one theatre and two dance student-produced works.

The students work will include:

* All in the Timing, written by David Ives and student directed by Chris Barr

* Human Nature, student choreography by Kristin Jones

* EMPATHmE, student choreography by Chelsea Kubiak

All In the Timing features selected one-act plays by American playwright Ives. Student directed by Barr, the rendition uses comic relief to compel the audience to think about the issues the characters face and understand the deeper lessons of the plays.

The ability of despair to consume a person to the point that they cannot see anyone or anything but themselves and their problems is the focus of Kubiak’s choreography in EMPATHmE.

Jones’s choreography in Human Nature represents the internal power struggle between right and wrong and the choice humans must make within the struggle.

Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and UNT faculty and staff. Call the box office at 940-565-2428 for tickets. The box office is open 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets go on sale June 17 (Wednesday).
