4th Wall Gallery in Dallas to exhibit “Lowbrow” art
When we heard that new artspace 4th Wall Gallery features Lowbrow art, we were so excited. Finally our admiration of “Dogs Playing Poker” and those creepy naked “Love Is…” kids would be respected.
And if we were really lucky, there might even be an interactive whoopee cushion sculpture of some sort.
Alas, that’s not exactly the type of Lowbrow art they’re featuring. But to our excitement, what this gallery specializes in is even better than the wildest dreams bouncing around our toilet-humor-lovin’ minds.
The underground visual art movement known as Lowbrow actually began in LA in the late ’70s. Also known as pop surrealism, the art is extremely diverse and often has a wicked sense of humor (just like all the paintings on display in the Vatican).
The gallery features a vast array of artists in ever-changing exhibits. When you stop in, make sure you ask to go to the back building where The Gallery@Storyopolis features many rare art books for purchase. It’s a coffee-table-book junkie’s dream!
This weekend artist Justin Bua will be at 4th Wall to unveil 10 original pieces to the public for the first time, in addition to many more of his most recognized works.
Just like Minnie Pearl back in the day, who knew something so Lowbrow could be so high-class?
