Dallasite Andre Staffelbach will join the pack in the Tour de France in late July.
Staffelbach last took this adventure in 2006, and says he is looking forward to being a part of one of the most grueling events in sports once again. He is founder and creative principal of Andre Staffelbach, a nationally recognized group of interior designers, architects, facilities planners and support staff with a 43-year history of creating and transforming interior spaces.
“This is a very exciting year because Lance [Armstrong] is back,” said Staffelbach. “There is a genuine camaraderie that surrounds the tour. Cyclists and enthusiasts from all over the world make the pilgrimage to this event.”
The Tour de France spans 23 days and 2,200 miles. Staffelbach will be a part of a group of cyclists traveling with Trek and the group’s organizers, Jim and Rhonda Hoyt of Richardson Bike Mart. They cycle during the last week of the tour -- beginning July 21 at Martigny and finishing on July 25th with the trek up Mount Ventoux -- one day after Staffelbach’s 70th birthday.
“It is truly magnificent,” said Staffelbach. “Everyone is there for the same reason. People line the streets and spend their days watching the tour pass. One year I had a flat tire and people asked me -- in multiple languages -- if I needed help. It is a unifying event and I am excited to get to be a part of it once again."
