New bakery-coffee-shop Creme De La Cookie to open on Friday in Snider Plaza in Dallas
On the hallowed ground previously occupied by Doughmonkey.
DALLAS Creme De La Cookie, a new bakery-coffee-shop, opens on Friday in Dallas' Snider Plaza, in the spot previously occupied by venerated-but-defunct bakery Doughmonkey (as noted by Overheard).
Owned by husband-and-wife Steve and Toni Rivard, the shop will offer not just baked goods but also coffee from Intelligentsia, the Chicago-based coffee roaster that's one of the top favorites amongst serious coffee geeks; no one else in the Dallas area serves it.
"My wife Toni, she's the majority owner, she's the baker -- I'm the banker," says Steve. "She's been baking her entire life. She was in commercial real estate and she used to deliver baked goods to get a competitive advantage. Everyone kept telling her she ought to do it full-time."
While Doughmonkey was basically a bakery case with a few tables, Creme De La Coffee has more of a coffeehouse profile, with couches, leather furniture, and TV. Their signature item is the "Screamin'O," a round brownie button dipped in chocolate ganache and coated with sprinkles. They also do whoopee pies, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies.

I wonder how well the coffee holds up. Might be worth checking out.
