The Barbacks at The Boiler Room -- Thursday, June 18
This is a local southern rock/country band to check out. As it states on their MySpace page, The Barbacks "makes a perfect sound to chill out, get down, rock out, get drunk, dance, not dance, yell, and do basically anything that feels groovy." That is the true essence of good country rock. You want to enjoy the music and have a beer with the band afterward.
Not only do they have the solid groove to maintain your swagger through the evening, they also have that southern charm that makes you want to stick around for the following acts. Following the Barbacks will be Circus della Morte and the Hickory Street Hellraisers. This is an interesting lineup of country rock, burlesque and ska. Should be an eclectic experience.
Telepathe at Hailey's -- Saturday, June 20
This Brooklyn, New York-based electo band is sure to get you moving on the dance floor this Saturday at Hailey's. They are currently on tour in support of Dance Mother, an acclaimed debut produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. It hit the streets in April and immediately pulled a five-star rave from Urb, whose critic went on at length about the urge to write this Brooklyn duo off as too cool to possibly be any good. "However," he added, "Telepathe transcends any hype, any preconceptions about whether they're the 'next big thing' or just look and talk like them, with an incredible debut album that transports listeners into a deliriously vibrant and colorful world of its own."
Here's the full length interview in Urb.
Consider the Source at The Boiler Room - Saturday, June 20
If the ectro-pop stylings of Telepathe isn't your thing, head over to The Boiler Room on Saturday night and catch some serious prog-rock insanity. Consider the Source is a NYC-based band that has made a name for themselves in the North Texas area for putting on a jaw-dropping live show. Their Middle-Eastern infused harmonies and hard-rocking rhythmic approach will be sure to keep your head bobbing through their entire set. (You may need to see a chiropractor afterwards, just warning you).
Then following their set are local favorites Spoonfed Tribe who always put on an excellent show. This bill could not be more perfectly put together for the die-hard fans of technically progressive rock.
