Dallas rock radio station KEGL 97.1 FM is launching "Loud And Local," a new local-music hour every Monday night from 11 p.m. to midnight, starting June 22, which is tonight.

"I'm a huge fan of local music and I thought the Eagle needed to do something," says KEGL Program Director Chris Ryan. "We've always had the local music show on Sunday nights on [sister station KDGE] The Edge. But I thought there's room for two."

The music mix on the two stations will be slightly different.

"The Edge is more cutting edge while the Eagle will be more straight-down-the-middle rock band," Ryan says. "Bands like Venture, Neverset, Drowning Pool, stuff we don't usually play during regular hours. On the heavier side because it's the Eagle. I wouldn't go so far as to say metal but just rock."

The host will be Angela Chase, and bands can get themselves into rotation by hitting the KEGL Web site and going to their "Loud And Local" music page where they can upload tunes for the staff to sift through, review, and spin.

Genius, genius. Just a great idea. Josh from The FM 102.1 The Edge-Nights will have some competition nowadays.

How sad that a single hour per week of local music is something to brag about...

Ditto swag. One hour of local music, 167 hours of corporate crap.
