DALLAS Author Sam Haskell, former talent agent for Hollywood stars, will visit Dallas June 30 through July 2. As current chairman of the Miss America Organization, Haskell will visit the Miss Texas pageant and speak at the Richardson Rotary Club. (He was Rotary Boy of the Year in 1973.) He will also do a public signing at Legacy Book Store in Plano on July 2 for his memoir, Promises I Made My Mother.
The memoir recently debuted as No. 13 on the Los Angeles Times nonfiction bestseller list and as the Kansas City Star's No. 2 pick for “What corporate America is reading." The autobiographical memoir is about his life growing up in Amory, Miss., as he lived a principled life in unprincipled times.
Sam Haskell with a whole bunch of famous people -- Kirstie Alley, Lance Bass, Doris Roberts (the mom from Everybody Loves Raymond), and Sean Hayes (the ultra-gay Jack from Will & Grace).
Haskell is widely recognized for rising to the top of a turbulent business with his character, integrity, and value system intact. As head of Worldwide television, Sam represented clients such as George Clooney, Dolly Parton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ray Romano before retiring in 2004. Sam lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Mary, a recording artist and actress, and their two children. After retiring from the William Morris Agency, Sam has increased his philanthropy by raising millions of dollars for Mississippi scholarships and for hurricane Katrina relief. His good friend Prince Edward has designated him as chairman for the Duke of Edinburgh's Young Americans Challenge.
