Lone Star Park jockeys announce inaugural charity softball game at QuikTrip Park June 29
The Lone Star Park jockeys will be moving their tack across the street to QuikTrip Park, home of the Grand Prairie Air Hogs, on Monday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. for the Inaugural Lone Star Park Jockeys Charitable Softball Game to benefit the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund.
The riders' opponents in the inaugural clash will be a team of Lone Star Park management and special guests from the media who cover the track.
“Lone Star Park has always supported the jockeys in their fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Don MacBeth Memorial Fund,” said Lone Star Park President Drew Shubeck. “This charity softball game is a fun way to help that cause, and we hope that many of our fans come out to watch and support the jockeys. Hopefully, we can make this an annual event.”
Lone Star Park track race caller John Lies will serve as the public address announcer for the game at QuikTrip Park. The pre-game ceremonies will include the national anthem and the introduction of the jockeys and their opponents.
Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to meet and talk with their favorite jockeys before and after the game.
Gates will open at 6:45 p.m., with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fans attending will be asked to make a $5 donation to the MacBeth Fund as admission to the game. Concessions stands will be open during the game.
The Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund, founded by TV comedian Tim Conway with former jockey Chris McCarron and his wife Judy, assists injured and disabled riders. It is named after late jockey Don MacBeth who spent much of his time trying to assist those less fortunate than himself before he died of cancer in 1987.
