Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, June 24-30

This week's event include a rhyming musical in Rockwall, a jump start on celebrating America in Seagoville, St. Matthew's Gospel performed in Fort Worth, ham radio in Plano, and teen pop in Arlington.

Seussical, Jr., which starts at the Rockwall Community Playhouse on Tuesday, June 23, will continue all week. The musical is a one-act version of the popular Seussical the Musical that features such Dr. Seuss characters as The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, and the Grinch.

Apparently Seagoville thinks waiting for the Fourth of July to celebrate the good ol' U.S. of A is for chumps, as they're holding their 2009 Seagoville Patriotic Festival at C.O. Bruce Central Park Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The festival will include a carnival, lots of food, and will culminate with music by Comanche Creek and fireworks on Saturday.

Kids Who Care will put on four performances of the Bible-themed Godspell throughout the weekend at the W.E. Scott Theatre in Fort Worth. According to them, "you have never seen the Gospel according to St. Matthew in quite the same way."

Ham radio enthusiasts will be out in force at Plano's Hoblitzelle Park for the Plano Amateur Radio Klub (PARK) Field Day, stretching for 24 hours straight from 1 p.m. Saturday, June 27 to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Experts will be on hand to show how to use the radios to contact people across the world.

Finally, teen pop groups Boys Like Girls and Never Shout Never will kick off the summer concert series at Six Flags Over Texas on Saturday, June 27. That series will feature later concerts by Raven Symone, Drake Bell, and Jesse McCartney.
