Live music events in Dallas-Fort Worth June 25-28

If new music is your thing, there are CD releases aplenty this Friday and Saturday. But if you prefer to hear your classics performed symphonically or in a remix, well, we've got that too.

Thursday

Sure it's the Lizard Lounge, but it's also Paul Van Dyk. Rocking a 15-year career in electronic dance music, Van Dyk has recorded with the likes of U2, Justin Timberlake, and Depeche Mode, has a Grammy nomination, and has sold more than 3.5 million albums worldwide.

(CD Release) Friday

A number of Texans are holding CD release parties around town this Friday:

Country music artist Travis Mitchell will release One Step Ahead, his first solo album and first album under new label Aaron Ave Records, at Gilley's Dallas.

Also country, Charlie Robison from Bandera, Texas released Beautiful Day on Tuesday, and after an Austin show, he'll be in DFW on Friday and Saturday, at Hank's Texas Grill and then Billy Bob's Texas, respectively.

And last, but not country, The Felons will release At Sea at Club Dada. Recording their album at January Sound Studio, produced by Bryan Nesbitt, the locals return to the club where they got their start to celebrate the release.

But if new things like CD releases are scary for you, then sure thing Ben Kweller is at the Granada.

Saturday

One band you don't want to get out of line with is Free Reign. Fronted by rather large members of the Dallas Cowboys, this metal group just signed a record deal and will be releasing their CD at the House of Blues on Saturday. Of course, as big and tough as they are, they're sharing the bill with some not-so-metal bands, including First Class Fever and Shorelines End. Eclectic is the theme of the night for this show.

Lola's in Fort Worth is hosting Eaton Lake Tonics, Record Hop, and Quiet Company (from Austin). You could also head out to Sons of Hermann Hall to catch Brave Combo and buy them a drink, or even make them a papier mache Grammy since they can't win one anymore.

Sunday

Talk about a great excuse to lay on the grass, close your eyes, and escape for a bit. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents "Stairway to Heaven: The Music of Led Zeppelin" at the Botanic Garden in Fort Worth's Cultural District.

More info on Curtis - Curtis Salgado began his career 30 years ago as the lead singer for the Robert Cray Band. He then fronted Roomful of Blues for a short time before going solo. Curtis has recently recovered from a liver transplant, and was nominated for four 2009 Blues Music Awards - Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year AND Soul Blues Album of the Year (for his latest CD "Clean Getaway"), and his song "20 Years of BB King" was nominated for Song of the Year.
