Tom Schieffer announces Texas gubernatorial bid outside Fort Worth elementary school
Using his old stomping ground, Luella Merrett Elementary, as a backdrop, Fort Worth native and Democrat Tom Schieffer officially announced his bid for Governor of Texas of Wednesday.
Schieffer was an ambassador to Australia and Japan under former President George W. Bush and president of the Texas Rangers (as association that helps with gubernatorial bids). He is the younger brother of CBS newsman Bob Schieffer.
Tom Schieffer will likely face in the election Kinky Friedman and former Texas Railroad Commission candidate Mark Thompson, as well as Republicans Governor Rick Perry and U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
