Addison mom-and-pop Mi Taquito Tex Mex toying with Salvadoran dishes

Mi Taquito Tex Mex is a mom-and-pop Tex-Mex spot from Benito Bonilla and his wife Elvira, which opened at the end of 2008 in the spot previously occupied by Graciela Mexican Cafe.

Benito had been a manager for restaurants such as Chili's and Taco Bueno, but he'd always dreamed about opening his own place.

"I had this idea a couple of years ago, but was waiting for my kids to grow up a little so they could help run it," he says.

Customers come for the traditional enchiladas, fajitas, and chili rellenos filled with cheese or beef. But Bonilla is from El Salvador, and has been working on adding some Salvadoran dishes. Recent new menu items include pupusas filled with shredded pork, and black beans with white rice.

"I haven't wanted to add too many items to the menu at once, because I don't want to complicate things," he says. "But we keep adding dishes one at a time."
