Trouble getting financing puts hiatus on development in downtown Plano

Developers and merchants are holding on by their fingernails.

Developers and merchants are holding on by their fingernails.

It's a vicious cycle.

Developers were set to build a mixed-use facility near the DART station in downtown Plano that would include 230 apartments and 15,000 sq. ft. of retail. But they've had to put their plans on hold due to a lack of available financing in today's tough economic climate.

That's led area retailers to bemoan the fact that their businesses will continue to suffer until the influx of new tenants (and shoppers) takes place.

With the economy, it's always something.

SERIOUSLY, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SAY ONE SINGLE THING ON YOUR FRONT PAGE ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE????

I do think the video is misleading since the new development was not going to replace any of the locations shown in the video. It was replacing an older strip mall west of the Dart tracks. When I drive home in the evening down 15th Street, all of the restaurants etc on 15th are doing a booming business. Actual pedestrians can be seen on the street..Wow!

i wish there was a place in downtown plano worth hanging out at, like a good coffee/espresso place. some place that doesn't require you to purchase alcoholic beverages that is.

There was one on K,a block off of 15th, that closed to due lack of interest on the part of patrons...as in not enough people walked in the door and bought things. Such a simple concept capitalism, the devil is in the execution.

Nina, I heard that Michael's last request was to have his ashes packaged up in a box of Rice Krispies.

Yeah, Gwen, Fusion was a nice unloved little spot. (sigh). Now it's Bake Rejoice - nice custom cake shop, but nope, not a hang-out.

Ironically, all the new bar owners say the exact same thing as Luniz.

Hang tight all - it's gotta be just around the corner.

Too bad for poor harried Ben - the former shop owner.

and before Fusion moved in, that space was occupied by Coffee Haus, the local chain-let that preceded the arrival of Starbucks in the DFW area; Coffee Haus struggled to make a go of it in that area for quite a few years

i used to make an effort to support Fusion but the one drink i would try to buy there -- basically a green tea frappuccino -- they never had the right ingredients for it
