San Diego Padres 7, Texas Rangers 3
ARLINGTON The Texas Rangers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night, losing 7-3 to the San Diego Padres at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The loss dropped Texas to 40-34, a half-game behind the surging Angels for first place in the AL West. It was the first time since May 5 that the Rangers had not been in first place in the division.
Rangers starter Derek Holland was once again lit up like a Christmas tree, surrendering 13 hits and seven runs over five-plus innings of work. Holland, who pitched brilliantly in his last start, did manage to strike out eight Padres while walking just one, and is now 1-6 with a 6.20 ERA in his rookie season.
The Rangers, on the other hand, were out-hit 16 to 6 and had only one player with multiple hits. Michael Young went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Chris Davis added a solo home run in the third inning, his 15th of the year.
