City of Colleyville hires economic development director

The city of Colleyville has named Marty B. Wieder as the city’s economic development director. Wieder brings extensive experience in the economic development field, both in the public and private sectors. He plans to start work in Colleyville in early August.

His early priorities will include developing strategies to first retain and develop Colleyville’s existing businesses, as well as attracting new enterprises and investment. And the city’s main commercial corridor along Colleyville Boulevard will be an area of specific concentration for his economic development efforts.

Since 2000, Wieder has served as the director of marketing, planning and project management for GSBS Architects. While at GSBS, he managed the company’s expansion into economic development marketing and consulting, strategic planning, logo/slogan design and city planning. Some of the project “firsts” credited to his tenure include, the Benbrook Town Center design charrette, Richland Hills Redevelopment Plan, Azle logo/slogan design, Corinth Business Overlay Review, and the Hickory Creek Comprehensive Plan. He also provided or supervised economic development and marketing consulting services to the cities of Richland Hills, Azle, Watauga, Northlake, and White Settlement.

Wieder has held economic development positions with the city of North Richland Hills, Northeast Tarrant Chamber of Commerce, and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. His previous employment also includes the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Builders Association of Fort Worth & Tarrant County, and in the district office of former U.S. Congressman Tom Vandergriff.

While serving as North Richland Hills’ head of economic development, Wieder helped the city realize a number of accomplishments, including a $29.5 million expansion of North Hills Hospital’s physical plant, renovation of the 42-acre Richland Plaza and former Richland Pointe Mall into corporate office centers, and the start of the 287-acre HomeTown development. He also brought the first Kohl’s department store to Texas (in The Crossing shopping center).

Among an extensive list of awards and accolades garnered throughout his career, Wieder has been recognized by the Fort Worth Business Press on its list of “Top 40 under 40.” He was also named “Best in Texas” by the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives, as well as the Texas Career and Technology Council and Vocational-Technical Education Foundation of Texas.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, Wieder holds a master’s degree in urban affairs and a bachelor’s degree in communication.
