Dallas changes speed limit on stretch of Oates Drive
No one from the city has contacted us, but today (Saturday) while walking my dog, I discovered that new speed limit signs went up!
The speed limit on Oates between Ferguson and Buckner is now 30 MPH.
Speaking with one of our neighbors, I discovered they actually went up Friday afternoon.
Thank you to everyone who called the city and helped get the word out. I expect we'll see an increased level of enforcement as the police noted the higher speed limit was an impediment to enforcing the speed limit. The police will not issue a citation unless the driver is exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 miles per hour. The net result of that policy is that the driver would have to be exceeding 45 MPH under the old speed limit. Now, a speed of 40 will get you ticketed.
I'm going to ask everyone, again, to contact Dallas Police Traffic Enforcement Division at (214) 670-5816 and ask that the new speed limit be enforced. Also, please contact the Dallas County Constable's office at (972) 690-8692 to request additional enforcement. Please tell them that the speed limit has recently been lowered when you call.
We should still consider posting 'Slow, children at play' signs ourselves.
