Dallas ISD chess champions crowned
Sophomore Adarsh Jayakumar and senior Jose Montelongo tied for first place in the fifth annual Dallas ISD High School Chess Championship sponsored by The University of Texas at Dallas held recently at W.W. Samuell High School. Both students attend the Science and Engineering Magnet at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center.
The winning prize is a four-year scholarship to The University of Texas at Dallas. This win was a repeat performance for Montelongo who won last year’s competition and the UTD scholarship. This year’s scholarship went to Jayakumar.
The UTD scholarship covers the cost of tuition and mandatory fees through eight semesters of enrollment. The scholarship is worth approximately $48,000.

If only I knew how to play chess when I was a student at Townview. I wouldn't be begging for FA at UTD right now. :p

Travis Bush, says:
Only kings left. You can't put yourself in check by getting right next to the opponents king.
