Study ranks Dallas ISD second-best improved urban school district
DALLAS — The Dallas Independent School District is ranked first in the state and second in the nation among urban school districts in improving student achievement from 2000 to 2007, according to a report released by The Brown Center on Education Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
The report examined 37 of the nation’s largest urban school districts and found the school systems studied improved more than other school districts in their respective states.
The report looked at state test scores and demographic information taken from the past several years and compared large urban districts to other districts in their state.
"This is great news, and it’s very encouraging," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "It has been a challenging school year, but to receive this kind of unexpected validation that all of our efforts at improving student achievement are making a difference is indeed very rewarding."
The study included five other urban school districts in Texas, including Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.
Nationally, Dallas ranked second behind New Orleans as the most improved urban school district.

Yeah, so a flood that devastates the entire district is only slightly more effective than the Hinojosa Brigade. Good to know.
