Tincy Miller and Hal Brierley to receive the 2009 TACA Silver Cup Award
31st annual event benefits the performing arts.
DALLAS TACA has named Geraldine “Tincy” Miller and Hal Brierley as the 2009 TACA Silver Cup honorees for their outstanding contributions to the arts in Dallas. Miller and Brierley will receive their awards at the TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon.
Civic Volunteer and former Dallas mayor Annette Strauss created the Silver Cup Award Luncheon to recognize one man and one woman for their outstanding contributions to the arts in Dallas. The award symbolizes philanthropic excellence in the areas of art and culture. Proceeds from the TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon, held annually since 1979, benefit the performing arts. Funds raised from this luncheon and other activities benefit Dallas’ performing arts community. Earlier this month, for the second consecutive year, TACA distributed $1 million to diverse and deserving performing arts organizations in North Texas.
Mrs. Miller, a champion for the arts in Dallas for decades, has actively served as president of the Women’s Board of the Dallas Opera, co-founder of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Presentation Ball, and chair for major fundraising events for the Dallas Opera, Dallas Historical Society, Baylor Healthcare, Crystal Charity and TACA.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the TACA Silver Cup Award,” said Mrs. Miller. “My mother-in-law, Juanita Miller, taught our family that to whom much is given, much is expected. By giving of ourselves, we grow. I believe that a city is not great without the arts, and that TACA represents the very best of the arts in Dallas.”
“As one who is enthusiastic, a group leader, intelligent and inspirational, Tincy Miller lives up to the highest standards of those honored with the TACA Silver Cup Award,” stated Sharon and Mike McCullough, friends of Mrs. Miller. “Tincy has worked tirelessly for every major arts organization in Dallas, and is very deserving of this honor.”
Mr. Brierley’s passion for the arts is reflected in his commitment to the many boards he serves on, including the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, the Dallas Symphony Association, The Dallas Opera, AFI Dallas, TACA and KERA-TV. He also serves on the Baylor Healthcare System Foundation and the National Forest Foundation boards.
“I’m honored to join the distinguished list of recipients of the TACA Silver Cup, and to be able to salute TACA for its years of financial support for the arts,” said Mr. Brierley. “TACA’s volunteers are role models for raising the funds that allow our many arts organizations to prosper.”
“Hal’s impressive and broad involvements have contributed critically to Dallas’ ‘coming of age’ culturally,” said Linda Custard, the 2000 Silver Cup honoree. “His contributions personally, financially, and professionally enhance the quality of life in our community. He is highly deserving of this award.”
Michelle Thomas, TACA Silver Cup Award luncheon chairman, said, “Tincy and Hal are two exceptional philanthropists and passionate arts advocates. I invite those interested to join more than 1,000 arts supporters at the TACA Silver Cup Luncheon. It’s the one day each year when our arts community comes together to celebrate the role that volunteerism plays in powering the arts.”
Past Silver Cup recipients include, among others, Stanley Marcus, Sis Carr, Charles Wyly and Marguerite Hoffman.
Founded in 1966, TACA’s (The Art’s Community Alliance) mission is to provide financial support and services and to increase public awareness and participation in the performing arts of North Texas

Two great pillars in the arts community. I don't know much about Ms. Miller, but I do know Mr. Brierley gives everything he can to the arts in Dallas, a true philanthropist. There would be no artistic culture if it weren't for people like this! Thanks to both of you!
