Women In Film Dallas schedules Short Film Showcase for Sunday, March 8

Who says short films don't get no respect? Not the chicks behind these flicks.

Women In Film Dallas (WIF.D) sponsors a number of film events throughout the year, and the latest - coming up this Sunday (March 8) at the Studio Movie Grill in Addison - is a short film showcase.

Short films don't get a lot of exposure because - let's face it - commercial theaters aren't set up to do screenings of movies with six to 24-minute runtimes. (What do you charge for a ticket? Which films do you group together if you want to charge full feature price?) Plus, there's simply not as much public interest in the short film genre, which is a real shame because they can be just as entertaining, enlightening and insightful (if not more so!) than ninety minute or two hour long shows.

The films represented here have been cherry-picked from over 40 finalist selections submitted by WIF.D international members and local film festival partners. The 75-minute program starts at 5 p.m., and you may purchase advance tickets here for $10 if you're a part of the general public (i.e., "unwashed masses"), or for the low, low WIF.D member price of $5 (if you're a WIF.D member, obviously).

Vanya Rose - director/writer/producer

Three part poetic portraits taking place throughout the 20th century in Montreal Canada - A story told with few words and great cinematography, Montreal 1971, follows a young woman on her journey through love, loss and loneliness. Each moment in her life and her memories unfolds in a serious of precious decisions similar to what many women face.

Drama - Premiered at WOW Festival 2008 - Steve, an 8 year old corresponds with 8 year old Theresa, in Africa, through a sponsorship organization which only allows communication until she is 18. Before the contact is cut off, he has to tell her how he really feels.

The Colors of Veil

Documentary - A former U.S. soldier ultimately found her identity in the veil, and became a vanguard of the growing American-Muslim community. Share in her struggles to find a job that accepts her and how her trials have inspired others like her.

Fiction - Premiered at WOW Festival 2008 -- Sisters Poppy and Bella struggle to bring themselves up in a rundown warehouse above a burlesque club where there Mother is a singer.
