  • Where: Ed Landreth Auditorium at TCU, 2800 South University Drive , Fort Worth
  • Cost: Free - $10

The Texas Christian University Opera Studio will present Ormindo (or L'Ormindo, as some would have it), by Francesco Cavalli (lib. Giovanni Faustini), this Friday through Sunday (March 6 - 8) at the Ed Landreth Auditorium. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, with the Sunday performance coming off at 2:30 p.m.

This is no bare-bones sing-through, but rather a fully staged production featuring sets designed by Wade Giampa, costumes by Opera San Jose and a baroque orchestra conducted by J. David Brock. The production is directed by Richard Estes of the TCU School of Music faculty.

The opera will be sung in its original Italian, with English subtitles projected above the stage. Of the cast of 10, eight performers are from Texas, while one is from Russia and another from China.

Ormindo was first performed in Venice in 1644 in the San Cassiano Opera House, which was the first public opera house in the world. (It was demolished in 1812, though that had nothing to do - we trust - with ongoing performances of Ormindo.)

Tickets will be available at the door ($10 general admission, $5 non-TCU student and seniors); admission is free to TCU students with ID.
