This week, expand your mind with a little edu-ma-cation, increase your waistline with some great food, and get ready to lose an hour of your life forever. But there’s enough shopping and cocktails in the mix to keep you from ever missing that pesky 60 minutes anyway.
It’s Easy Being Cheesy: Italian Cheese and Wine Class
Thursday, March 5, 7:00 p.m.
There are three words in the English language that really make us giggle: cockamamie, Presbyterian, and cheesemonger. (Chalk it up to all those hours spent in the library looking up dirty words in the dictionary instead of going to P.E. during elementary school). Tonight, join our third favorite funny word as Rich Rogers, cheesemonger and owner of Scardello Artisan Cheese leads a cheese and wine tasting class at his Oak Lawn shop.
$25 per person (reservations required); Scardello Artisan Cheese, Dallas; www.scardellocheese.com
Shop ‘Til You Save An Orangutan: Sip, Shop & Support at Merge Boutique
Saturdays in March, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Enjoy cocktails while you shop for the latest fashions and do a good deed without even trying. Every Saturday in March, 15% of your purchases will benefit the Dallas Zoological Society (just make sure to mention them when you check out). Finally, buying that zebra-print jacket can help save a real one.

Home Schooling: Discovering Dallas’ Historic Neighborhoods with the Dallas Historical Society
Saturday, March 7, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Get on the bus and get ready for some learnin’ as you explore some of Dallas’ most beautiful historic neighborhoods and the homes that make them great. From Deep Ellum and South Dallas to Swiss Avenue and Hollywood Heights, you’ll learn everything you ever wanted to know, and probably a little you didn’t know you wanted to know, but are happy to know now. Includes lunch at the Dixie House in Lakewood.
$50 non-members/$40 members; Pick up/drop off at Hall of State in Fair Park, Dallas; Call Nora Lenhart at (214) 421-4500 x101 or e-mail nora@dallashistory.org; www.dallashistory.org
Let’s Get Ready to Rumbo: Este Es Mi Rumbo Exhibit Reception
Thursday, March 5, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound? We think the more important question is, if an art exhibit opens without cocktails, does anyone go? Well, fear not. This Artreach Reception for this exhibit featuring emerging Texas artists is actually worth seeing without the lure of booze and nibblies.

Eating Clay Aiken: Hung Dinger Official Grand Opening
Saturday, March 7
Come out and support the newest neighborhood restaurant as Hung Dinger officially opens on Throckmorton. Featuring entrees named after singers (such as the Clay Aiken Fettuccini Alfredo—drippy, cheesy and covered in creamy sauce). But it’s the one-hour showgirl performances every Wednesday through Sunday that have our curiosity titillated.
Spring Forward, Fall Into The Arms Of A Stranger: Daylight Saving Time
Sunday, March 8, 2:00 a.m.
This Saturday, when the lights come on after last call, it’s going to be an hour later, so don’t forget to set your watch ahead. Just make sure if you’re paying that escort by the hour that he doesn’t start the clock right at 2:00 a.m. or you’ll be giving new meaning to the word “Quickie.”
