FC Dallas Youth hosting golf tournament April 3 to benefit teammate with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Cliches aside, in the North Texas youth soccer community, club teams are like families. Between twice or more weekly practices, games, tournaments, carpools and the like, players and parents spend enough time together to become regular fixtures in each other's lives. So when one member of this family becomes sick, her teammates rally around to support her back to health.
Recently, Haley Bush, a player on the FC Dallas '98 White girls soccer team, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. A form of cancer that affects the immune system, more than 66,000 new cases were reported in 2008, while nearly 20,000 people died from the disease. While Haley already has the tough spirit to fight cancer, treatment can be costly. To help raise money for one of their own, the FC Dallas Youth soccer club is hosting the "Friends of Haley Golf Tournament" on April 3.
Since announcing the tournament, team manager Mike Farley notes that personal donations have flooded in, but they've had difficulty signing up golfers to participate. With a soft deadline of March 15, the tournament organizers desperately need about 50 more golfers to meet the minimum number required by the hosting Frisco Lakes golf course. If they are unable to meet the minimum number, they may need to cancel thus losing this opportunity to raise money for Haley's family.
For more information on the tournament please read below:
The event will include a 4-person scramble with each player receiving a gift bag that includes one round of golf to each of the following courses: Riverchase Golf Club, Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club and Frisco Lakes Golf Club. Other gifts included as well. A box lunch will also be provided for all participants.
