McKinney businessman David Brooks to run for city council
Brooks will run for the At-Large Councilmember position on the McKinney City Council.
David Brooks, Chairman of the Board & CEO of McKinney-based Independent Bank Group, announced his candidacy for the At-Large Councilmember position on the McKinney City Council. The election will be held in May.
In his announcement on Wednesday, Brooks said, "I believe I can make a real difference in the future of McKinney. I am passionate about this great city and believe there is always room at the table for new and fresh ideas. My history of leadership in this community and in business uniquely qualifies me to work at the city government level to effect positive change to meet the challenging days ahead. These unprecedented economic times make business acumen and cooperation with county, school district and regional partners vital to maximizing the use of our limited resources."
Brooks, a longtime McKinney resident, proven business leader and well-respected corporate citizen, served on the MISD Board of Trustees from 1995-2000 and as its President from 1996-2000. From 2000-2004, he served as the Chief Financial Officer at Baylor University, where he played an integral role in facilitating the most rapid and effective change in the history of his alma mater. Brooks' current role as Chairman of the Board of Noel-Levitz, the nation's leading enrollment management consulting firm for colleges and universities, serves as further testament to his passion for education.
"People have obviously been moving to McKinney for a reason and it is important to maintain the wonderfully unique character of the community as we make decisions for our future. I believe my community-wide involvement makes the "at large" council seat the best place for me to plug in and serve for the future. I look forward to earning the voter's trust and working hard to build on the strength of this community to make it an even better place to live and work in the years ahead!"
Brooks offers solid and ethical business expertise, strong commitment to integrity and open communication as well as proven leadership experience. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and as a member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Collin County.
Demonstrating his longstanding commitment to this community, Brooks has chosen McKinney to headquarter his fast-growing Independent Bank Group. Independent Bank currently has two branches in McKinney and twenty locations throughout the state. Brooks recently announced the purchase and redevelopment of the building at 1600 Redbud in McKinney, a new environmentally-friendly "LEEDS Gold-certified" building project, which will serve as the bank's new corporate office, home to Square One Mortgage division and the newest bank branch. Creating new jobs and investing in the commercial tax base of the community have been priorities.
Under Brooks' leadership, Independent Bank was recently named as the "2009 Business of the Year" by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, has earned the 2008 and 2009 designations of "Best Bank" by Star Community Newspaper readers and was honored as "Business of the Year" for community service by Volunteer McKinney Center in 2007.
Brooks lives in McKinney with his wife of 21 years, Carolyn and sons Ryan and Reece.
