Rapper Gorilla Zoe visits Dallas’ Pearl C. Anderson Jr. High

... and leaves students with a controversial poster promoting his new album.

Atlanta-based Hip hop artist Gorilla Zoe stopped by Pearl C. Anderson Jr. High in Dallas on Friday (March 6) to deliver a motivational speech to students, whose content apparently sought to instill in them a determination to do well in their classes. (So far so good, eh?)

Unfortunately, the posters he handed out - which went home with all the kids in attendance, to be scrutinized later by their parents - showed Mr. Zoe (a.k.a. Alonzo Mathis) with a cigar in one hand, a presumed alcoholic beverage in the other and a pistol in his pocket.

Parents seem not to have appreciated the implied message.

Hey, you can smoke, drink and shoot things and still stay in school.

How so? That's obviously what "success" is.

You know, I could play devil's advocate here. Why do we tell kids to study hard and go to school? So they can get nice jobs, buy a nice car, put a downpayment on a nice house, and start having children.

All of those things are just as inappropriate to children as smoking and (presumably) drinking.

actually.. nice jobs, buy a nice car, put a down payment on a nice house... is what I want for my kids. I'm not going to tell them how to get it, but that's a well rounded goal.

My point was that you probably didn't want your kids (assuming they're still minors) having all those things right now.

I think it's better to teach them that the lottery system of professional sports or Hollywood stardom is preferable to work ethic and marketable skills.

Remember, folks. You'll need people doing menial labor for years to come and they can't all be from unmonitored immigration.
