Winners of Arlington animal essay contest announced
The judges have announced the winners in Arlington's annual animal essay contest.
More than 400 essay entries were received. Judges were drawn from the ranks of the Arlington Animal Services Center Advisory Board, along with school trustees from Arlington, Mansfield and Kennedale.

The winning essay authors will be recognized at an awards reception scheduled for 6 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall; later, they will be honored by the City Council in that entity's chambers (at 6:30 p.m.).
Here are the 2009 Arlington Animal Essay Contest winners:
Third Grade
Essay Topic: If animals could talk, what would they say?
First Place – Kree Perkins, Summit International Preparatory, Arlington Charter
Second Place – Karen Youssef, Davis Elementary, Mansfield ISD
Third Place – Erin Sotelo, Blanton Elementary, Arlington ISD
Fourth Grade
Essay Topic: What feelings do you think animals have?

Essay Topic: What are some ways to make life better for animals in your community?
