Dallas Independent School District is accepting recommendations for the naming of new facilities under the 2008 bond program and for name changing of existing facilities. Proposals should be submitted by the end of the business day on March 31.

According to Board policy CW Local, Board approval is required for the naming and renaming of all district facilities including schools or distinct portions, such as libraries or auditoriums. Some of the guidelines for naming facilities or portions of facilities include:

●Persons who have attained prominence locally or nationally based on contributions to the public in recognized fields such as education, science, medicine, law, art, government, business, justice, civil rights, human rights, or military achievement;

●Early pioneers of Dallas or the state of Texas; or presidents of the United States; or

●Distinctive geographic locations, also

●A facility or portion of a facility may also be named for an individual or group when a major capital donation has been made to the District for the facility by or on behalf of the nominated individual or group.

●A facility or portion shall not be named after or in honor of any individual, unless such individual has attained 70 years of age or has been deceased at least 18 months, or such naming is a condition of a gift or grant accepted by the District.

There are other guidelines and procedures for naming and renaming of facilities or portions of facilities, listed in the CW Local board policy, which can be accessed in the Web site http://www.tasb.org/policy/pol/private/057905/.

Nominations shall be presented in writing on a form provided by the District [see CW (EXHIBIT)] and shall consist of a brief three-paragraph statement that shall contain:

●Biographical data.

●The significant contribution.

●An impact statement explaining why a facility, school or portion thereof should be named after the person.

Nominations will only be accepted with completed exhibit. Complete applications may be sent to: Director of Board Services, 3700 Ross Ave., Box 1, Dallas, TX., 75204-5491. The required form should be submitted by the end of the business day on March 31. For more information, please call the Office of Board Services at (972) 925-3720.

It is not fair to beat me to the punch in a subtitle.

Not fair at all.

For what reason would a facility need to be re-named?

Maybe because a student suggestion turned out to be some sort of horrible inside joke? Or maybe that the person a facility was named after turned out to be a secret Nazi kitten rapist?

I like it.
If I were say...thirty years younger, I'd name my band Nazi Kitten Rapist.
Yes, I lost complete touch with reality about ten years ago.

The more the merrier. It's guaranteed to reduce electric usage and keeps pencils sharper longer and reduces contaminants in the drinking water supply.

Rick..wrong,so very wrong man. LOL

Im of the belief we should start co-naming out schools after businesses in the neighborhood, like Cesar Chavez-Taco Bueno Elementary or Woodrow Wilson-Chacon Motors High School, make a little money and get the kids educated as well. Its a win/win ;)

I course I will throw out Avi Adelman Elementary. But remember kids:

  1. You will be under constant video surveilance.
  2. There are no bathrooms.
  3. No running or smiling.
  4. If you have not purchased a hang tag, your bike will be towed.
  5. All children of certain ethnic groups must obtain a "gangbanger" ID badge.

Chris, I do like your hybrid name options, there I propose Avi Adelman-Sekret Lounge Elememtary.
