Texas Ballet Theater to present Cleopatra

0

Texas Ballet Theater’s Artistic Director Ben Stevenson is proud to present Cleopatra, March 27 – 29 at the Nancy Lee & Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth.

The legendary Queen of the Nile takes center stage in Cleopatra. In the ballet, the tempestuous love story of Cleopatra and her two Roman admirers, Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, is played out against a background of political intrigue, as warring factions struggle to the death for control of one of the world's great empires.

Cleopatra is one of Ben Stevenson’s most acclaimed, original full-length works. Stevenson originally developed Cleopatra for the Houston Ballet and it premiered at The Wortham Center in Houston in March 2000. This spectacular $1.2 million dollar production features rich set designs by Thomas Boyd, a spectacular array of opulent costumes by Judanna Lynn, and a powerful score drawing on the music of Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, arranged by British conductor and arranger John Lanchbery. These creative elements combine to realize Stevenson’s vision of a luxurious, sensual Egypt and a hard-nosed, powerful Rome

Performance dates at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth are: Friday, March 27 at 8:00pm; Saturday, March 28 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm; and Sunday, March 29 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.
