UPDATE: Veteran restaurateurs pair up to open Zinsky’s Deli at Preston-Royal in Dallas
UPDATE: Opening day is Saturday July 25.
“We need a good classic New York style deli in our neighborhood,” concluded Jim Baron and Mark Brezinski, both established restaurateurs, each in his own right, and good friends. And that is exactly what the two will bring to the northeast corner of Preston-Royal when they open Zinsky’s Delicatessen & Catering Co. in Henry S. Miller’s Preston Royal Shopping Center. The restaurateurs teamed up with a group of local business and community leaders to form this partnership and many of these partners grew up within walking distance of the Preston-Royal site.
“When I was a kid in New York,” remembers Jim Baron, “my dad would go out every Sunday morning to the local deli and buy bagels, lox, maybe a little white fish (if we were lucky), cream cheese, a red onion, and crumb buns. My mom would brew a pot of strong coffee and the feast would begin. My dad was really skimpy portioning the lox, because it was so expensive - maybe a half ounce a bagel - which made it an even bigger treat. Mark Brezinski remembers growing up in New Jersey and the frequent gatherings above his grandfather’s Polish Market & Butcher Shop, with all the wonderful smells of cured meats, cheeses, and pickles. “It made you hungry all day,” muses Mark.
Zinsky’s will honor the traditions that both Mark and Jim grew up with. Not just bagels and lox, but great hand carved pastrami and corned beef, incredible rye bread, the best sour pickles, homemade tuna fish and matzoh ball soup. “We are committed to buying the best products available, having a classic warm deli atmosphere, and being the friendliest gathering place in town,” claims Brezinski.
“This really is a selfish act for the two of us,” Baron asserts. “We both know how to open and operate restaurants.” Baron and his wife, Liz, have more than 20 years experience growing Blue Mesa restaurants, with 6 restaurants in Dallas and Fort Worth. And Brezinski has over 20 years experience locally including Brinker International Restaurants, being one of the co-founding partners of Pei Wei Asian Diner, and now his new Bengal Coast restaurant at the Centrum. “We both live in the Preston Hollow neighborhood and were hungry for good deli food. We believe we can provide a great new offering to this community,” says Brezinski.
Baron and Brezinski have teamed up to faithfully and respectfully create the classic deli experience for all Dallas to enjoy. Zinsky’s will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and will offer a complete catering menu featuring platters, office breakfast items, box lunches and special occasion items. Zinsky’s is projected to open sometime early this summer.

I hope this place is as good as their lofty aspirations ("...great hand carved pastrami and corned beef, incredible rye bread, the best sour pickles, homemade tuna fish and matzoh ball soup. “We are committed to buying the best products available..").
So who are these power broker/pols that are part of the partnership? Names please!
