Dallas metal sculpture event launches month-long exhibit

More than 300 Dallas civic and business leaders attended a reception and art exhibit showcasing the talents of students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Thursday, March 5, in the lobby of Bryan Tower in Downtown Dallas. The event was sponsored by Spire Realty Group of Dallas.

Twenty-six metal sculptures created by the metal sculpture class of Booker T. Washington were displayed in an exhibit entitled “Scrap Can Be Beautiful”. For the 31st year, Commercial Metals Company, a Dallas-based world-wide metals recycling, trading and manufacturing company sponsored the sculpture class and donated scrap metal from recycling plants in the area to the students for their creation of extraordinary pieces of art.

The “Scrap Can Be Beautiful” sculpture exhibit will be on display in the lobby of Bryan Tower in Downtown Dallas through March 2009.

Caleb Smith, president of Spire Realty Group, owners of Bryan Tower, said that his company is “proud to showcase the talents of the students for the second consecutive year. “Last year’s event was so successful that it became the inspiration for our new Children and the Arts Foundation, dedicated to the education and pursuit of the arts by children.”
