Duncanville Councilman Ford starts petition to ban red light cameras

1

The city of Duncanville void of red light cameras?

This could be possible.

Councilman Paul Ford announced at the March 3 council meeting that he is in search of citizens to help in a petition to ban the red light cameras.

The appeal is part of Ford's ongoing initiative to ban red light cameras throughout the city.

Ford says he is confident that with enough support, it will be placed on the ballot and later passed. “I've received a great amount of backing from citizens upset with the cameras,” he said. “I hope these are some of the same citizens to help with my petition.”

According to the District 3 representative, the petition requires the signatures of at least 50 percent of voters who participated in the last Mayoral Election, equating to about 1,300 signatures. To avoid any mishaps, Ford hopes to exceed this number by reaching 2,000 supporters.

Ford has not set a date to begin the petition, but is hoping to start soon.

Along with petitioning, Ford is launching a new website, paulford reports.com, by the end of the week, calling the site a “resource for those who want to know the rest of the story.”

“This is an informative web page,” the councilman said. “There tends to be incomplete coverage during council meetings and I would like to provide citizens with the remainder of what they do not see.”

He says this will be a non-partisan site and is not in connection with his campaign process.

The site will include e-mail and other options available for those with questions or concerns for the councilman.

As election season arrives, Ford made a plea for all citizens to become informed on the issues and candidates. “It is in the benefit of the citizens to know what's going on in their city and should hold their politicians accountable,” he said.
