Frisco Blockbuster store gets set for bloody Twilight DVD release

Dallas-based Blockbuster is having all sorts of trouble these days making the rent, so they're thinking outside the box to come up with ways to utilize their storefronts to generate biz.

Here's an interesting and imaginative ploy: on the eve of the release of the DVD version of the hit teen vampire flick Twilight, they'll actually be sponsoring a bood drive.

That's right - on March 20, leading up to the midnight release (for sale or rent) of the Twilight DVD, select Blockbusters will have blood bank reps in attendance, eager to extract a pint from those queuing up to get their hands on a copy - in exchange for a free pint of ice cream. (They might have had me if they were offering another sort of pint, but that wouldn't be kid-friendly, I suppose.) This offer will be limited to the first 50 donors to be tapped.

The big event will also include Twilight-themed giveaways and other surprises. There will be a limited number of life-sized Edward posters up for grabs (i.e., sale), also. And how about some actual NECCO Twilight-themed Sweethearts Conversation Hearts? (Gotta have 'em.)

The DVD product itself (to cut through the promotional fog for a moment) will be a "special" two-disc edition, featuring excluded (and deleted!) scenes, cast commentary, a "making of" feature and music vids by Muse, Paramore and Linkin Park.

The only store in the North Texas area participating in the blood drive event is the one at 5649 Lebanon Rd. in Frisco - BUT don't despair, most other Blockbusters will be staying open 'til 1 a.m. on March 21 to accommodate those who JUST CAN'T WAIT to buy the DVD.
