$11.2 million in strip club fees sit unspent while state grapples with how to handle situation
As a result of the tussle between state lawmakers who want to charge a $3 to $5 charge per strip club patron and that pesky little first amendment, $11.2 million currently collected sits unspent. Meant to pay for sexual assault services in places without, it cannot be spent yet because the state may return the money to the clubs after a district judge struck the law down. Lawmakers are currently appealing the judge's decision. Meanwhile, the state comptroller continues to collect money, but it's significantly less than the state predicted, because many clubs have yet to turn their fees in.

Oh I see...You can tax smokers but not horny men.
I would wager that there are infinitely more horny men on the planet. But then again, what do I know?

One of the issues with the fee is that the state needs to prove a direct link between stripping and sexual assault. It's going to difficult to provide more than tenuous correlations.

Ahh...A Correlation Tax. Of course! But then by that logic wouldn’t they also have to tax the offender’s parents, anyone who may have victimized a potential offender, drug dealers, manufacturers and distributors of alcohol, oh and Larry Flynt?
Jason - When you start trying to add cute, funny and has a job to that description, the numbers drop dramatically.
