2009 AFI Dallas Film Festival - The Last Picture Show

  • When: Thursday, April 2, 2009, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Nasher Sculpture Center, 2001 Flora Street, Dallas
  • Cost: Free
  • Age limit: Not available

AFI Dallas let the "secret" out via a full-page ad in the DMN: that director Peter Bogdanovich will attend a screening in Dallas of his 1971 film The Last Picture Show on April 2 at 7 p.m. at the Nasher Sculpture Garden, where he'll be joined by Timothy Bottoms, who starred in the film. What, no Cybill Shepherd?

Bogdanovich has recently appeared on two episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent as an actor, playing the role of magazine publisher "George Merritt", a thinly disguised takeoff on Hugh Hefner.

Part of me wishes this event wasn't free. I just went to AFI's site to buy tix because I couldn't believe it was free. (The missus is a big fan of Peter B.) I have a feeling that'll be quite a line.

Hey Mike have you ever bought AFI passes for the entire week? I was wondering what to expect. Would appreciate any tips from anyone who has. Thx!

I've only done individual events. Maybe when Filmguy gets back from Austin, he'll have some insight. Also know that Michael Cain follows these discussions on our site, so maybe he or one of his folks can help...

Well, I can say this: if you buy a festival pass you end up with a "badge" (makes you look cool and insider-y, with a hang tag around your neck and all), and badgeholders line up in a different line than individual ticket holders (for most screenings/events).

And here's the good part: badgeholders get first dibs on theater seats (because they're let in first).
