State Rep. proposes legislation that would break up Dallas ISD

6

State Representative Yvonne Davis (D-Dallas) introduced legislation that would require a breakup of an ISD that teaches more than 150,000 children in a county with more than two million people. This legislation would affect Dallas and Houston. With the district's current state, this may not be a bad idea. Hell, it can't make things worse.

John McClelland, says:

Smaller school districts do not necessarily equal better school districts. Didn't Dallas ISD have to purchase the rights to Wilmer-Hutchins ISD to save its butt from collapse?

So what happens if the Dallas ISD is busted up? Do they section it off into majority white and majority minority areas? Rich and poor?

Christin Richard, says:

I agree, John. Breaking up the district might run the risk of even further disparity among different communities, and in rebuttal to the notion that "it couldn't make things worse", such a widening and competitive disparity amongst smaller districts could very well make things a lot worse.

DISD can't graduate a literate student anyway. Just close the whole thing down. That billion bucks they get a year would be better suited in my pocket.

Yale, Princeton, Harvard, M.I.T. etc. don't share that opinion - DISD graduates from Woodrow, Hillcrest and W.T. White have been accepted there and are thriving.

Harvard had the whole Mock Trial team from Woodrow (second place in state, 2008) up there a couple of months ago, in fact.
