DALLAS Baker and erstwhile restaurateur Cretia Drydale has re-opened Cretia's on McKinney, a bakery-cum-restaurant, a few blocks down the street on McKinney from where the former Cretia's on McKinney resided.
The new location previously housed Tijuana Bar & Grill, Vino and Basso, Eccolo, and Toscana way back when. It doesn't have the in-house boutique that the old Cretia's -- which closed last year -- had, but has a bakery and four bars.
General manager Carlos DeLeon says the menu is New American, and includes dishes such as Cajun spicy meatloaf, pork tenderloin, wild Chinook salmon, and rack of lamb. Onsite chef is John Martin, who moved here from Oregon, and helped devise the menu which DeLeon calls "lengthy". There is pizza, rotisserie chicken, prime rib, salads such as wedge and Nicoise.
Here's a nifty twist: They're doing a daily risotto, a daily pot pie, and a daily slider.
"We're not doing plain old burger sliders," DeLeon says. "Yesterday was a lobster and shrimp slider, today is prime rib."
The cheapest entree is the meatloaf, at $16, and the most expensive is the porterhouse, at $35, but DeLeon says most are priced in the low $20s. Desserts come straight from the pastry case: a dozen cakes, cupcakes, pies, and cookies.
Drydale also has a small pastry stand/coffeeshop in the back of Dicho's, the Latin bookstore in Bishop Arts.

I think that location is jinxed. I hope they succeed. But in this economy? I don't know.

Went to the new Cretia's the other night, which was awesome, and Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson were there. Nice enough people....overheard a guy meeting them and as he shook Tony's hand he teasingly asked "and who's your date?" Tony and his dad (also there) had quite a laugh but I don't think Jessica got the joke.
