How do you get a total nut-job out of your life, even though he saved it? Chris Trimboli will star in the title role as The Nerd. Hailed by the media as one of the funniest plays ever written, this extraordinarily inventive, side-splitting comedy was first presented by the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, then produced in Great Britian, then went on to Broadway and played 441 performances. The action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect (Alex Mitchell) who is visited by a man he’s never met but who saved his life in Vietnam…the visitor turning out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid “nerd” who outstays his welcome with a vengeance. His continued presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproarious incident after another, until the normally placed Willum finds himself contemplating violence –a dire development which, happily, is staved off by the surprising “twist” ending of the play.

Both Trimboli and Mitchell are no strangers to Granbury audiences. They both starred in Life Could Be a Dream, Back Home for Christmas and My Way on the Opera House stage. Also starring in The Nerd are two of Granbury’s favorite performers, Kathryn Bourell and Zanna Fredland from New York along with Stephen Eyre and of Fort Worth.

Mike Skiles, Executive Producer of the Granbury Opera House comments, “We are very excited to bring this wildly funny play. This is a terrific comedy of manners gone awry and to have this talented cast on stage at the same time will only top it off as one of the funniest plays to ever be on the Opera House stage. Variety magazine billed it as a spring tonic of side-bursting laughter and we think this is just what our audiences want to see right now.”

The Nerd is directed by Sam DiRosa who has directed some of the Opera House’s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful productions including it’s most recent production of My Way and The Butler Did It. Other shows include Back Home For Christmas and Ethel Waters: His Eye is On the Sparrow. He currently serves as the Artistic Director for the Texas Family Musicals.
