While Mesquite officials are in the process of paying back their travel indiscretions, over in Dallas city council member Angela Hunt has made it clear that she will not use any taxpayer money to fund her trips.
For a recent trip to San Francisco, Hunt pulled money from her campaign to pay travel expenses. Other city council members, however, contend that they cannot afford to pay for their own trips but note the importance of travel in learning how other cities operate. In the grand scheme of things, the grand scheme being the $100 million 2009-10 Dallas budget deficit, this gesture is more symbolic (and reelection savvy) than anything.
