North Texas shelters and hot lines report spike in domestic abuse
Some officials believe the economy may play a role in making abusive douchebags become even worse abusive douchebags.
Admittance to domestic abuse shelters and calls to hot lines has spiked recently across Texas and many believe the faltering economy may be contributing to abusive behavior. SafeHaven of Tarrant County reported that calls to its domestic abuse hot line increased to 3,772 in January 2009 from 1,688 in January 2008. More than half of all calls to a national hot line this January admitted to a change in financial situation. According to the article linked above, while financial hardships may increase the incidence of abuse, it also makes it more difficult for women to leave.
Though the economy can be a catalyst for domestic violence, experts contend that the underlying cause of abuse is being a giant asshole loser.

How can we be so sure all 3,772 were women?

I was relatively serious, btw. Pretty sure dudes call those lines as well.

Scott, if you'll reread the sentence, I never said that guys don't call those hot lines. They do. Domestic abuse goes both ways.
The only reference to women is when I'm citing what the original article wrote about financially hard times making it more difficult for abused women to vacate a violent situation. I would assume the same goes for men.
As it turns out, women, too, can be "giant a-hole losers."

ScoDo is just miffed he gets called a woman again. *"How do we know?"*
Try *"A friend of mine has this problem..."*
Dude, chicks just like to whip up on you. Face it. It's your lot in life.

I'm well aware most women willing to put up with me will learn to mentally abuse me and, in time, completely crumble my self-confidence with head games. Don't need a hotline to tell me it'll be OK, I'm training myself to accept my fate early on. =p
