Irving man recovers from doc-induced deep freeze
Austin Miller collided with a teammate while playing softball - and nearly died.
After 21-year-old Austin Miller of Irving collided with a teammate while going for a fly ball on the softball diamond last month, the EMS crew had to shock his heart back into life a total of 15 times.
Once they got him to the hospital, the medicos feared for his brain and decided to induce a hypothermic coma by lowering his body temperature.
Thankfully, the radical treatment seems to have worked: Miller is up and about and almost fully recovered, though there are some things he's forgotten how to do (like writing in cursive and driving a car).
Sounds like he's anxious to get back to work, though one has to wonder about his eagerness to return to extra-curricular softball.
